Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

What Do You See In Him?

Oh, the nights are too long
When Her questions are long
I try
But I will never understand
What do you see in Her?
What do you see in Her?

Cheat the Life out of me1
As you walk hand in hand
And I try, and I try, and I try
But I will never understand
Oh, what do you see in Her?
I ask myself:
"What do you see in Him?"

But She will plague you
And I will be glad
Yes, He will leave you
And I will be sad

These are the original title and lyrics laid on the same music of later Wonderful Woman. The song was performed during the third show at the Hacienda, Manchester on February 4, 1983 and it's available on a bootleg called "The Butterfly Collector".

This is the only Morrissey/Marr song to change its title between concert debut and actual studio recording.

Within the love triangle, which is the gist of the lyrics, Morrissey is the spectator of a hetero relationship (He and She). He obsessively turns to Him asking what does He see in that woman, who is bound to make Him suffer. Then the protagonist asks, this time to himself, what qualities does he see in Him, so implying a homo feeling. At the end of the song, She will reveal herself as She is, a nagging woman and He will be her victim forever while Morrissey says to himself what is going to happen: He will leave him. The end result: everybody unhappy and the protagonist condemned to see his predictions come true!

1 Cheat the Life out of me: some read "She's the lifeblood of me" or "Tease the Life out of me".

Cosa ci vedi in Lui?

Oh, le notti sono troppo lunghe
quando le sue domande sono le stesse
Ci provo
ma non lo capirò mai
Cosa ci vedi in Lei?
Cosa ci vedi in Lei?

Ed io ci provo, ci provo, ci provo
Ma non lo capirò mai
Oh, cosa ci vedi in Lei?
Domando a me stesso:
"Cosa ci vedi in Lui?"

1 Cheat the Life out of me: alcuni preferiscono "She's the lifeblood of me" o "Tease the Life out of me".
