Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

The Lazy Sunbathers

A world war
Was announced
Days ago
But they didn’t know
The lazy sunbathers
The lazy sunbathers
The sun burns through
To the planet’s core
And it isn’t enough
They want more

Nothing
Appears
To be
Between the ears of
The lazy sunbathers
Too jaded
To question stagnation
The sun burns through
To the planet’s core
And it isn’t enough
They want more

Religions fall
Children shelled
... children shelled? that’s all very well,
but would you please keep the noise down low?
Because you’re waking
the lazy sunbathers...

The lyrics recall Georges Seurat's painting "Sunday afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte", 1886 where bourgeois people take a walk and lie in the sun along the Seine in Paris. The picture is intentionally burlesque and it represents a harsh criticism against the middle class of that time and the middle class in general. The indifference of the people about a war, or other great events is the central theme of the picture and, I think, the song.

I pigri bagnanti

Una guerra mondiale
è stata annunciata
giorni fa
ma loro non lo sapevano
i pigri bagnanti di sole
I pigri bagnanti di sole
Il sole brucia
fino al cuore del pianeta
ma non è abbastanza
Loro vogliono di più

Niente
sembra
esserci
fra le orecchie dei
pigri bagnanti di sole
Troppo affaticati
per discutere del ristagno economico
Il sole brucia
fino al cuore della Terra
ma non è abbastanza
Ne vogliono di più

Crollano religioni
Bambini bombardati
"... bambini bombardati? Oh molto bene,
ma per favore potreste tenere basso il volume?
State svegliando
