Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

Because Of My Poor Education

Because of my poor education
I don't expect your invitation
A ship lost inches away from the bay

Because of my poor education
I can't endure my situation
This here is my bed
And I must lie

Because of this strange indentation
I live my life without affection
Kind hearted view me and say
"Thank God that's not me!"

Once I was sure I had found my hero
And I allowed myself to think so
Reality is not real to me

Failures in love-affairs and in social relationships are the main theme of these lyrics. Failures explained by the lack of a proper education. The absence of formal qualifications sometimes means to see one's love unrequited or to be excluded from social and cultural environments. Morrissey seems to perfectly realize that, in this song.

By the way, besides his notorious bookish intellect, the singer's real education was never a secret. As often he pointed out in interviews, during his school years he was but a normal working-class student, rather reluctant to the English Educational system. After leaving the horrible St. Mary's Secondary (which inspired the lyrics for "The Headmaster Ritual"), in summer 1976 Morrissey attended the Stretford Technical School gaining O Levels in English Literature, Sociology and General Paper, though failing the Level in History.
