Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

What Difference Does It Make? (Album version)

All men have secrets and here is mine
so let it be known
for we have been through hell and high tide,1
I think I can rely on you2
And yet you start to recoil,
heavy words are so lightly thrown
but still I'd leap in front of a flying bullet
for you

So, what difference does it make?
so, what difference does it make?
it makes none but
now you have gone
and you must be looking very old tonight

The devil will find work for idle hands to do
I stole and I lied, and why?
because you asked me to!
but now you make feel so ashamed
because I've only got two hands
well, I'm still fond of you

So, what difference does it make?
oh, what difference does it make?
it makes none but
now you have gone
and your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight

Oh the devil will find work for idle hands to do
I stole and then I lied just because you asked me to
but now you know the truth about me
you won't see me anymore
well, I'm still fond of you

But no more apologies
no more, no more apologies
I'm too tired
I'm so sick and tired3
and I'm feeling very sick and ill today
but I'm still fond of you

(Oh my sacred one)

There are some remarkable differences between this version of the lyrics (as sung in "The Smiths" album) and the "Peel sessions" and "Hatful of Hollow" version, namely:

1 "we have been through hell and high tide"

2 "I can surely rely on you"

3 "I'm so very tired"

Musically, the "Peel sessions" version is by far the best. The album version is affected by John Porter's sophisticated production, quite inadequate and frankly useless for a 'sincere' track like this.

Che differenza fa? (Album version)

perché noi siamo passati attraverso l'inferno e l'alta marea

E stanotte devi sembrare molto vecchio

(oh mio prediletto)

Ci sono alcune notevoli differenze fra questa versione del testo (come viene cantato nell'album d'esordio "The Smiths") e quella delle "Peel Sessions" e di "Hatful of Hollow", vale a dire:

1 "we have been through hell and high tide"

2 "I can surely rely on you"

3 "I'm so very tired"
