Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

The Draize Train

(instrumental)

This instrumental composition was first published as a b-side of the single 'Panic' in 1986. Morrissey did not provide the lyrics to this track although Rough Trade's manager Geoff Travis had tried to convince him that the result could be very succesful in the charts. Morrissey thought that "it was the weakest thing Johnny had ever done. So I said 'No, Geoff, it's not right.'"

Following Morrissey's convictions about animal rights, Marr titled the tune as a reference to the Draize Test1. Despite his earlier comments, Morrissey eventually approved the song among the tracks to be part of the The Smiths' final UK Tour in 1986. The Smiths played it often as an encore leaving the whole scene to the band members. Morrissey also put the live version on Rank when compiling the track-list as both an homage and royalties collector to Johnny Marr.

1 The 'Draize test' [after John Henry Draize (1900-1992), American pharmacologist] is a test to determine the degree to which a substance such as a cosmetic or pharmaceutical irritates human tissues, in which a small amount of the substance is applied directly to the skin, in the eye or to the genitals of a rabbit, and the rabbit is then monitored. Draize is also a small town, between Reims and Sedan, North-West of France.

Il treno di Draize

(strumentale)

Perciò dissi 'No, Geoff, non va bene.'"
