Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby

If you're wondering why
All of the love that you long for eludes you
And people are rude and cruel to you
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You just haven't earned it yet, son
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You must suffer and cry for a longer time
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
And I'm telling you now

If you're wondering why
When all I wanted from life was to be Famous
I have tried for so long, it's all gone wrong
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
(But you wouldn't believe me)
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You just haven't earned it yet, my son
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You must suffer and cry for a longer time
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
And I'm telling you now

I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
Today I am remembering the time
When they pulled me back and held me down
And looked me in the eyes and said:
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You just haven't earned it yet, son
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You must stay on your own for slightly longer
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
And I'm telling you now

You just haven't earned it yet, baby

As an ominous warning to all sensitive souls frustrated by the lack of success, this title song was allegedly inspired by an offhand comment by Geoff Travis, Rough Trade label manager. Morrissey will use the same verse on "Paint A Vulgar Picture", a song about the British music industry. "Obvously Geoff was staunchly against it," said Morrissey, "because he thought it was a personal letter addressed to him."
