While explaining his singular opinions on sexual genders to Melody Maker's interviewer in 1986, Morrissey quoted this song's lyrics: 'In the song there is a line "God, how sex implores you". To make choices, to change and to be different, to do something and make a stand. I always found that very, very encroaching on any feelings that I felt that I just wanted to be me, which was somewhere between this world and the next world, somewhere between this sex and the next sex.' The lyrics feature quotetions from Nicholas Ray's 1955 movie "Rebel Without A Cause" with James Dean and Sal Mineo. For instance the line: "Jim, do you think that the end of the world will come at night time?". Other quotations come from "Men's liberation", a 'new definition of masculinity' by American gay activist Jack Nichols.
