Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore

Park the car at the side of the road
You should know
Time's tide will smother you
And I will too
When you laugh about people
Who feel so very lonely
Their only desire is to die
Well, I'm afraid
It doesn't make me smile
I wish I could laugh
But that joke isn't funny anymore
It's too close to home
And it's too near the bone
It's too close to home
And it's too near the bone
More than you'll ever know

Kick them when they fall down
Kick them when they fall down

It was dark as I drove the point home
And on cold leather seats
Well, it suddenly struck me
I just might die with a smile on my face, after all

I've seen this happen in other people's lives
And now it's happening in mine

This song was bizarrely released as a single, and its un-chartworthy nature was proven by The Smiths' second worst chart performance in the UK.

There apparently are strong rumours that this song is about a journalist with whom Morrissey had a relationship. According to Dave Simpson in his Uncut article (August 1998), the unnamed journalist steadfastly refuses to discuss Morrissey to this day.

"I've watched this happen in other people's lives and now it's happened in ours" is a phrase taken by a 1935 movie called Alice Adams, directed by George Stevens, about the misadventures of two social-climbing women in small town America.

Quello scherzo non è più divertente

Parcheggia la macchina a lato della strada
Dovresti saperlo
Vedi, ho paura
Che a me non faccia sorridere
Vorrei poter ridere
Ma quello scherzo non è più divertente
é troppo personale
Ed è troppo volgare
é troppo personale
Ed è troppo volgare
Più di quanto tu possa immaginare

"Prendili a calci quando cadono terra"
"Prendili a calci quando cadono terra"

Era buio mentre guidavo dritto verso casa
E su gelidi sedili di pelle
Improvvisamente mi balenò in mente
